...aaannndd we've arrived.

So yesterday was the big move. And because I'm a useless New Yorker and still don't know how to drive, my wonderful sister came down from Massachusetts to drive me up. We woke up at the crack of dawn to go into Manhattan to pick up the car. I took one look at the car and all my anxiety vanished. See, I realized that I have A LOT of belongings. You know how you never see how much stuff you have until you move? That was me to the 8th power. So even though the rental people told me that the car would hold seven large suitcases, I was stressin'. But the car was HUGE. So we drove it back to Brooklyn and started loading it. My awesome roommate Amy used her amazing packing skills and everything fit wonderfully. We were on the road by 10 AM and had to drive through Jersey (where we got slightly lost), Pennsylvania and then crossed back into NY state. My sister is a, how shall I say, careful driver so we barely made it before the housing office closed at 4:30. I had to sign my lease and pick up my keys and if that didn't happen, it would have been me, my sister, the car, a random parking lot and some serious blankets. Thank God we made it.
I went and did all the paperwork and got my keys and went to see my apartment. Now, I've lived in Brooklyn for 6+ years and my apartment was never my ideal situation. But my school apartment is possibly the most ghetto space I've ever seen. It's a weird 'L' shape and has all these windows that I'm sure will freeze me out in the winter. It's also small and not at all the layout that I had seen in the housing booklet. My bed squeaks a whole lot and do you know what I have a view of from my windows? You guessed it, a cemetery. Needless to say, I've already made a stink about it and have requested something else, we'll see how that goes.
SOOO, we unloaded all my stuff and drove around a little bit. There's a Starbucks, a Mickey D's (which means nothing to me) and a Subway (halleluyer) within walking distance from my building. There is also a church like 2 blocks away (this is getting checked out immediately). The city of Rochester is actually pretty nice. The downtown area is really clean with wide streets. They have this little building that they call "Times Square" and I thought, "ai, que cute." After exploring a little we got something to eat and went to the airport to return the car. We then took a cab home and proceeded to crash.
Today, we're going exploring. We found out that there's also a CVS within walking distance and a bunch of other very necessary stores, and so off we go.
Check back later for the updates!
Love and miss you all.
